420: a Calendar of Events from Roux Black

By: Rachel Gonzalez

It’s that time of year – the time when Totino’s puts up their billboards reminding you to grab those pizza rolls B4/20! It’s the time for super blunts, mega joints, the second most popular holiday season for baking; baking those goodies that are just so damn good that you’re actually in a coma. Oh wait, that’s because you ate four and nobody really knows how much weed is in them. 4/20 is upon us, and here’s what you should be checking out to celebrate!

The 4/20 Rally  – Complete with vendors and a FREE 2 Chainz concert, Denver’s Civic Center Park is one of the most popular spots to hit up this holiday. The city makes sure to keep this event safe while still making it most prolific gathering of smokers in the world.

420 on the Block – This block party covers the areas Broadway and South Broadway with venues such as The Church, Milk Bar, Bar Standard and Vinyl. Vendors, visual art and live music is what you can get for a price ranging from $33-75. Some of my personal favorite artists that you should check out at this event are live performances from Blockhead and Dumpstaphunk.

The Science Lounge: Cannabis – The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is hosting a special exhibit for 4/20 about the science of Cannabis and the future of its manufacturing.

420 on the Rocks – Red Rocks is celebrating 420 with not one, but TWO nights of specialty concerts for 420. The 19th will feature Method Man, Redman and Afroman and the 20th will feature Flosstradamus and one of my favorites: Gucci Mane. ‘Nuff said.

Ravi Coltrane Quartet – For those who would like to not be bombarded with Kandi Kids and the 420 modern rave/stoner/crystal wearing folk, keep it classy at Dazzle Jazz this 4/20. Ravi Coltrane is a 2017 Grammy Nominee and is playing Dazzle three nights in a row.

Of Montreal – One of the most experimental bands of this generation heads to the Bluebird theater this holiday. The glamorous, drag and costume-wearing group will be performing a lot from their incredible 2016 release Innocence Reaches. Be sure to wear your glitter and costumes for this one!
